Minutes of the January 12, 2006 Meeting

Call to Order:

MSP to approve the minutes of the November 17, 2005 meeting

Officer Reports:

Chair: Wayne needs help in updating the SPMA website. Tom Boyd will be our new zone representative.

Vice Chair: Short Course Yards the schedule is as follows: Las Vegas January 28, 2006, Eagle Rays at Yorba Linda on February 12, Cal Tech Pentathlon March 5, Mission Viejo March 26, UCLA April 8, and Short course yards regionals at Santa Clarita April 21, 22, &23. Long Course Meters meets are as follows: Las Vegas June 24, Santa Barbara July 8, and the Zone meet at Mission Viejo July 15, 16, and 17. Worlds will be August 3-17at Stanford (swimming events are August 4-11) and the USAS Convention will be in Dearborn Michigan from September 13-17, 2006.

Treasurer’s report: As of December 31, 2005 SPMA has $19,695.00 in our CD and $23,066.00 in or checking account giving a total of $42,761.00

Member at large: Connie reported that with over 400 swimmers entered in SPMA’s Belmont SCM Championships that she took many pictures and some will be used for future SPMA newsletters. The USMS planners are also available.

Registrar’s report: As of January 12, 2006 we have 55 clubs registered and 1,470 members.

Awards: Trisha announced that Jim McConica is SPMA’s male swimmer of the year.

Open water: Shannon is working on the schedule and wants to remind everyone that the Seal Beach Rough water swim will no longer be a sanctioned swim.

Old business: MSP to allow Steve to purchase six stopwatches at a maximum expense of $260.00.

New Business: MSP to award SPMA Short Course Meter Championships to the Long Beach Grunions for December1, 2, & 3 at Belmont.

Nominations for delegates to go to this year’s convention are as follows: Trisha Commons, Errol Graham, Wayne McCauley, Steve Schofield, and Shannon Sullivan. Nominations are open until March 1.

We are now requesting nominations for SPMA Coach of the Year. The committee to judge the nominations will be Errol Graham, Mark Moore, Wayne McCauley, and Connie Barrett.

Tom Boyd, Connie Barrett, Robert Mitchell, and Mo Chambers have been nominated for the Dorothy Donnelly award. Additional nominations are due by March 20.
