Minutes of the May 12, 2005 Meeting

Call to Order: by the Vice Chair at 8:00 p.m.

Officer Reports:

Chair: Wayne McCauley will post his report on the SPMA website

Vice Chair: Long Course Meters meets: Southern California Charity Classic May 21, May 22 Senior Games(50 plus) at Pasadena, June 11 at Las Vegas, July 3 Mission Viejo Relay Meet, July 9 at Santa Barbara, July 24 at Saddleback(tentative), and USMS Long Course Nationals at Mission Viejo August 11, 12, 13, 14, & 15. (Note: SPMA will not be having a long course regionals because Mission Viejo will be hosting USMS Nationals.) August 7 Five Mile Open Water Championship in La Jolla, September 11 La Jolla Rough Water Swim. The USMS convention this year will be September 14-18 in Greensboro North Carolina. Short Course Meters meets: October 2 at Mission Viejo, October 15 at UCLA, November 5 at Santa Clarita, November 20 Turkeyshoot at Pierce College, December 2, 3&4 Long Beach Grunions at Belmont, and December10&11 Arizona Zone Championships in Tempe. Steve has said that he will run again for Vice Chair of SPMA but this will be his last term.

Treasurer’s report: Jeff will post his report on the website.

Registrar’s report: Julie submitted her report in writing and it is included in these minutes.

Sports medicine: Jessica is finishing up an article on warm up.

Open water: Shannon is working on updating the calendar for the website and hopes it will be posted soon.

Old Business: Delegate reimbursements for the USMS convention will be sent out. MSP to pay for half the room rate for Tuesday for those delegates who have meetings early on Wednesday (Jessica, Mary & Lucy).

New Business: Dorothy Donnelly award nominations are due to Wayne by June 15. For Long Course Nationals in Mission Viejo SPMA authorizes team and personal advertisements be allowed in the program. The due date for ads is July 15. MSP to allow a line or two in our SPMA e-mail (or a link) for ads in the Nationals program. SPMA is now accepting bids for the Top Ten and Registrar, and Newsletter as the current contracts end on September 30. Voting will be held at the next regular meeting (not a conference call) date to be determined. MSP The cutoff date to accept bids will be August 1. SPMA elections will be coming soon. Steve, Wayne, Mary, and Jeff have all said they will run again. A nomination committee was formed: Shannon Sullivan and Tom Boyd.
