Minutes of the July 13, 2006 Meeting

Call to Order: 8:05pm

MSP to approve the minutes the May 18, 2006 meeting

Officer Reports:

Chair: Wayne will post his report on the website. Wayne submitted Victor Hecker’s name for USMS Coach of the Year ,Tom Boyd, Mo Chambers, and Connie Barrett for the Dorothy Donnelly award and Julie Heather for the USMS Communications award.

Vice Chair: Long Course Meters meets are as follows: the Zone meet at Mission Viejo July 14, 15, and 16. Worlds will be August 3-17at Stanford (swimming events are August 4-11) and the USAS Convention will be in Dearborn Michigan from September 13-17, 2006. The schedule for Short Course Meters is as follows: Mission Viejo October 1, UCLA October 14, Santa Clarita November 4, Turkey Shoot at Pierce College November 19, SCM Regionals at Belmont (hosted by the Long Beach Grunions) December 1,2,and 3.

Treasurer’s report: MSP to approve Jeff’s report as written (also posted on the website).

Registrar’s report: Julie has submitted her report in writing and it will be posted on our website. As of today we have 2,999 registered swimmers. There will be about a week delay in the September/October newsletter so that they may include Worlds.

Awards: We presented Victor Hecker his SPMA coach of the year award at the Las Vegas meet. Santa Barbara had a good turn out and Mission Viejo will have medals not spinners.

Sports medicine: Jessica is receiving a lot of nice feedback on her July/August newsletter article. Jessica is also going to be giving a talk at Worlds as part of the sports medicine lecture series.

Open water: Shannon expressed her concerns about the diminishing open water swims and the disappointment over the cancellation of the Naples Island swim.

Old business: The stipend checks for convention have been mailed out.

New Business: USMS has two new awards, a USMS Club of the Year and a communications award. Wayne will post the information on the CLUB of the Year on our website. The USMS Championship committee would like our LMSC to bid on a SCY or LCM Nationals. MSP to change our next meeting (August 24) to a conference call.
