Minutes of the November 21, 2002 Meeting

 

Call to Order:  by the Chair Wayne McCauley at 8:15p.m.

Officer Reports:

Chair Wayne McCauley: Wayne commented that the 2002 USMS Convention in Texas was successful.  The Executive Committee approved the insertion of SPMA’s newsletter into SWIM magazine.  SPMA’s meets and forms are up on the SPMA website.  Wayne will also post his report on the SPMA website

Vice Chairs report: Steve reported on the USMS Long Distance Committee having set the 2004 Long distance swims.   The first long distance swim for 2003 is the one-hour postal swim.  The USMS Officials Committee agreed to use the USA Swimming Officials program to train USMS Officials if they wish to have the training.  The Turkeyshoot (SCM) at Pierce College in Woodland Hills will be on Sunday November 24, 2002.  The (SCM) Holiday Invitational will be on December 13,14, &15 at UNLV in Las Vegas Nevada.  Short Course Yards meets for 2003 are as follows: Sat. January 11 in Las Vegas at the Desert Breeze Indoor Pool, Sun. February 9 El Segundo, Sun. March 9, Cal Tech Pentathlon in Pasadena, Sun. March 30 Mission Viejo, and Short Course Yards Regionals April 11, 12, & 13 at UC Irvine.  Tentative dates for short course yards meets are: UCLA April 5 or 6, Eagle Rays in Yorba Linda April 26, and SCAQ at LMU May 3 or 4.  There will be coaches and swimmer clinic held in Fountain Valley on March 22 & 23.  Short Course Nationals are May 15,16,17, &18 at Arizona State University in Tempe.

Secretary’s report: no report

Treasurer’s report:  Please see the attached report as Jeff submitted his report in writing. 

Member at Large report:  Errol reported that the USMS Championship Committee awarded Short Course Yards Nationals to Indianapolis and the Long Course Meters Nationals to Savannah Georgia for 2004.

Registrar’s report:  Julie submitted her report in writing and it is included in these minutes.  Julie also stressed that the newsletter deadlines are drop-dead deadlines.

Sports Medicine: Jessica reported that the Culver City meet was well attended and that she will have articles ready for the March/April newsletter.

Awards Committee: Trisha is working on the male/female pool swimmers of the year.

Open Water Report: Lucy reported she has not spent the $500.00 yet for the SPMA ocean series winners.

Old Business: None.

New Business: There was a discussion on the 2003 budget.  SPMA will now be enforcing the $25.00 open water sanction fee, which is already a previous policy and it should be processed by Steve Schofield.  MSP to set aside $200.00 for SPMA Recognition and Awards.   MSP to support a booth at the LA Marathon.  MSP to approve the SPMA 2003 budget as amended.  The revised budget is attached to these minutes.

Mike Heather suggested a possible legislation change for USMS in regards to the Zone Committee.  This will be discussed at the next meeting under old business.
