Minutes of the January 16, 2003 Meeting

 

Call to Order:  by the Chair Wayne McCauley at 8:10p.m.

MSP the minutes from November 21, 2002

Officer Reports:

Chair Wayne McCauley: SPMA’s meets and forms are up on the SPMA website.  Wayne will also post his report on the SPMA website

 Vice Chairs report: The Las Vegas was nice and 44 swimmers were at the meet.  Short Course Yards meets for 2003 are as follows: Sat. April 5, Eagle Rays in Yorba Linda, Sun. February 9 El Segundo, Sun. March 9, Cal Tech Pentathlon in Pasadena, Sun. March 30 Mission Viejo, Short Course Yards Regionals April 11, 12, & 13 at UC Irvine, Sat. April 26 UCLA (Sunset Canyon pool).  A tentative date for a short course yards meet May 3 or 4 at SCAQ (at LMU).  There will be coaches and swimmer clinic held in Fountain Valley on March 22 & 23.  Saturday will feature Freestyle and Backstroke; Sunday will have Butterfly and Breaststroke as well as starts and turns.  Michael Collins commented on the huge benefits of video analysis and the opportunity to see other coaches such as Kerry O’Brian in action on the deck.  Short Course Nationals are May 15,16,17, &18 at Arizona State University in Tempe.  Las Vegas would like to have a long course meet in the early part of June.  Santa Barbara will have their LC meet July 12 or 13.  Long Course Regionals will be at Mission Viejo on August 8, 9, & 10, 2003.

Secretary’s report: no report

Treasurer’s report:  Please see the attached report as Jeff submitted his report in writing.  MSP to approve the treasurers report for Nov/Dec 2002. 

Member at Large report:  Errol reported that he and other SPMA board members are being harassed (e-mails/phone calls) by an SPMA member.

Registrar’s report:  Julie submitted her report in writing and it is included in these minutes.  MSP that meet directors accept, and forward to Julie, record requests from swimmers, but not give timing sheets to the swimmers directly.   

Sports Medicine:  Jessica reported that she wrote an article for the next SPMA newsletter.

Open Water Report: Lucy reported she has not spent the $500.00 yet for the SPMA ocean series winners.

Old Business:  Michael Heather brought up his motion to eliminate the zone committee.  This motion was tabled until the next meeting.

New Business: The following is the list of people who are eligible for reimbursement of their annual USMS registration fee, SPMA championship and USMS National Championship entry fees.  Eligibility is determined by attending half of the previous years committee meetings.  Trisha Commons, Errol Graham, Michael Heather, Julie Heather, Mary Hull, Lucy Johnson, Wayne McCauley, Robert Mitchell, Jeff Moxie, Tom Trapp, Steve Schofield, Jessica Seaton, Shannon Sullivan, Lindy Kleine, and Bob Merrick.

Nominations for service awards for USMS: Dorothy Donnelly Award nominations Lucy Johnson, Mary Hull, and Michael Collins.  Nominations are also due in for the Ransom Arthur Award and the Coach of the Year Award. 

Nominations for the 2003 USMS convention September 10-14 in San Diego are: Tom Trapp, Lucy Johnson, Jeff Moxie, Errol Graham, Trisha Commons, and Mark Moore.  Automatic delegates are Julie Heather, Michael Heather, Michael Collins, Shannon Sullivan, Steve Schofield, Wayne McCauley, Mary Hull, and Jessica Seaton.

MSP to set aside 25 cents per swimmer to fund the Southwest Zone.  .
