Minutes of the March 13, 2003 Meeting

Call to Order: by the Chair Wayne McCauley at 8:10p.m.

Officer Reports:

Chair Wayne McCauley: Wayne will post his report on the SPMA website

Vice Chairs report: Short Course Yards meets for 2003 are as follows: Sun. March 30 Mission Viejo, Sat. April 5, Eagle Rays in Yorba Linda, Short Course Yards Regionals April 11, 12, & 13 at UC Irvine, Sat. April 26 UCLA (Sunset Canyon pool) and Sun. May 4 at SCAQ at LMU. There will be coaches and swimmer clinic held in Fountain Valley on March 22 & 23. Short Course Nationals are May 15,16,17, &18 at Arizona State University in Tempe. Long Course Meters meets for 2003 are as follows: Sat. June 7 Las Vegas Desert Breeze pool, Sat. July 12 Santa Barbara. Long Course Regionals will be at Mission Viejo on August 9,10& 11, 2003 (Sat, Sun, & Mon.). USMS Long Course Nationals are August 13, 14, 15, 16, & 17 at Rutgers University in New Jersey.

Registrar’s report: Julie submitted her report in writing and it is included in these minutes.

Open Water Report: Shannon Sullivan will follow up on the 2002 open water schedule to see if the events will be repeated in 2003. Event coordinators need to be aware that there is a $25.00 sanction fee. Shannon will forward her findings to Steve so that he can follow up on issuing the sanction.

Old Business: Michael Heather brought up his motion to eliminate the zone committee. This motion was tabled until the next meeting. Michael also posted his proposal on the USMS discussions forum.

New Business: Nominations for service awards for USMS: Dorothy Donnelly Award nominations Lucy Johnson, Mary Hull, Michael Collins and Trisha Commons. MSP to submit Steve Schofield for the Ransom Arthur Award.

Delegates for the 2003 USMS convention September 10-14 in San Diego are: Lucy Johnson, Jeff Moxie, Errol Graham, Trisha Commons, Bekah Wright, and Mark Moore. Automatic delegates are Julie Heather, Michael Heather, Michael Collins, Shannon Sullivan, Steve Schofield, Wayne McCauley, Mary Hull, and Jessica Seaton.

MSP to send the SPMA Coach of the Year to the ASCA Convention in San Diego Sept. 2 thru 7 on the USMS scholarship. MSP for SPMA to send up to three additional coaches (registration only) using the donation money swimmers send in with their annual registration cards.
