Minutes of the May 6, 2004 conference call

 

Call to Order:  by the Chair Wayne McCauley a t 8:06 p.m.

Attending:   Trisha Commons (DSSM), Kathy Davids, Errol Graham (WH2O), Julie Heather (UNAT.), Michael Heather (UNAT.), Mary Hull (SWM), Wayne McCauley (ELST), Bob Merrick , Mark Moore (MVN), Jeff Moxie (DSSM), Steve Schofield (SWM), Shannon Sullivan, Sergio Rodriguez (LBG), Bekah Wright (SCAQ).

Officer Reports:

Chair Wayne McCauley:  Wayne will post his report on the SPMA website. 

Vice chairs report:  Long Course Meters meets are as follows:  May 16 San Luis Obispo, May 29 Santa Clarita, June 12 Las Vegas, July 10 Santa Barbara, July30-31 & August 1 LCM Championships at Mission Viejo.  USAS convention is September 15-19 in Orlando Florida.  Short Course Meters meets are as follows:  Santa Clarita September 25 or 26 (tentative dates), October 17 at Mission Viejo, October 23 at UCLA, November 21 Turkeyshoot at Pierce College, and bids will be accepted at our next meeting (June 24) for our Short Course Meters Championships to be held in December.   

Treasurer’s report:  Jeff submitted his report in writing and it is included in these minutes.

Registrar’s report:  Julie submitted her report in writing and it is included in these minutes. 

Awards:  The 2003 pool swimmers of the year awards were handed out at the SCY championships at UC Irvine.

Old Business: Michael Heather reported that the cost benefits of purchasing a laser measuring tool would not be worth the investment.

MSP that USMS convention delegates will receive a total of $670.00 (not including convention registration) to cover the cost of airfare at $300.00, food at $20.00 a day times 4 days = $80.00, one half a room for four nights at $127.11 = $260.00, and a shuttle at $30.00.  Bekah Wright will be unable to attend the convention so Tom Trapp will be going in her place. 

New business: USMS Dorothy Donnelly award nominations for SPMA are to be sent to Wayne McCauley by the next meeting (June 24, 2004). 

SPMA stop watches are twenty years old and at this time SPMA has seventeen working watches.  MSP to purchase eight new stop watches at $26.00 each plus taxes and shipping.

MSP to purchase four new EZ ups (awnings) not to exceed $1000.00.  Steve will look into the cost of putting SPMA on the awnings.

MSP for Julie to spend up to $120.00 on safety signs that read no diving.
