Minutes of the July 17, 2003 Meeting

Call to Order: by the Chair Wayne McCauley at 8:00 p.m.

Attending: Trisha Commons (DSSM), Michael Heather (UNAT.), Julie Heather (UNAT.), Mary Hull (SWM), Lucy Johnson (UCI), Wayne McCauley (SLUG), Bob Merrick (COAST), Mark Moore (MVN), Steve Schofield (SWM), Jessica Seaton (WH2O), Shannon Sullivan (SBM), Tom Trapp (LBSC).

Officer Reports:

Chair Wayne McCauley: SPMA’s meets can be found on our website at www.spma.net. Wayne will also post his report on the SPMA website

Vice Chairs report: Our Short Course Meters meets for 2003 are as follows: October 19 at Mission Viejo, November 8 at UCLA, November 23 Turkey shoot at Pierce College, and SPMA’s championship will be at Belmont Plaza December 12,13, and 14.

Registrar’s report: Julie has purchased the ten video set by Richard Quick to add to SPMA’s video library. Julie also submitted her report in writing and it is included in these minutes.

Awards: We will be accepting nominations for the 2002 Jim Marcus Award until July 31, 2003. Nominations are to be sent to Wayne McCauley at breastroker@usa.net. Gary McDowell was nominated. Steve will bring the pool swimmers of the year (2002) awards to Long Course Regionals at Mission Viejo.

Open Water Report: The medals for last years SPMA open water winners look nice and they are now to be distributed. We will put the winners on the web site and a reference in the newsletter.

Sports Medicine: Jessica wrote an article for the last newsletter.

Treasurer’s report: MSP to approve as written.

Old Business: Wayne has requested a delegate at large spot for the USMS convention in September and he is waiting on an answer.

MSP: to amend Michael Heather’s proposal to eliminate the Zone committee to also include taking the zone representatives off the Board of Directors.

New Business: Bids for Top 10 /Registration are due by August 15, 2003. Bids should be submitted to Wayne McCauley.

MSP: to pay $220.00 for an ad in Competitor Magazine.

Re-Registration forms that come in without a club listed …tabled for the next meeting.

MSP: to approve Mission Viejo’s bid for USMS Long Course Nationals for 2005.

SPMA elections: All current officers have agreed to be nominated again. Additional nominations should be submitted to Shannon Sullivan at 54colleen@cox.net.
